Media Autobiography
Magazines

I would like to propose a magazine based on one thing. Twilight. It would essentially be a Twilight-Centric magazine. The need for a magazine such as this is very high right now. Fans of the sereis are craving author news and of filming news from the movie set.

The name of the magazine would be Twilight Weekly to correspond with the little known television show Twilight Spotlight Weekly on the REELZ channel

the magazine will differ from other exsisting magazines, because it will be based on one subject and therefore attract the large audience that is twilight fandom.

the demographic for my magazine would be teens 12-18 because that is the general fanbase for twilight.

The best part is there wouldn’t be any competetion for this magazine because it would be essentially the first of it’s kind to come out montly or weekly.

I think advertisers that would be intrested in advertising in my magazine would be the exact same advertisers that advertise for Seventeen or TeenVougue. Since twilight mainly appeals to young teen girls. Advertisers I’m sure would be intrested are

Clean and Clear

TeenNick

Maybelline

MAC

and

recording artists ranging from Demi Lovato to Panic! at the disco.

the first five articles I would inclde is

Actor news which would talk about the actors in the movies and what they’re up to.

Book theories which would dispel theories about the book series

movie news which would discuss how the movie set is going

then i would have another article discussing the rumors surronding the actors

and the next article would be Author news

Each cover would be a collage of what represents each book or just a straight shot of one of the actors. The premier issue would be a collage about twilight.

The Harry Potter Series:

The Harry Potter series had a huge influence on my life. It was the first book that was over 100 pgs that I’d ever read, and the first book of that length that I had ever finished in less than a week. The book took me on a magical journey that I couldn’t escape from. I was completely entranced by the characters, the world and the magic. It was the first time that I’d thought of reading as recreational rather than required. It also got me into using the interent to find other fans like myself and explore the depths of fandom.

The Twilight Saga:

The first time I picked up the book twilight, I thought ‘Great. Another dumb vampire story.’ but I decided to take a chance on it anyway. The storyline was sort of bland and the characters weren’t all that defined and lacking of personality but I enjoyed the concept. Upon reading the next few books the writing got alot better and I started to really enjoy everything about it. It was witty and intelligent and a story of genuine true love which is something that appeals to me and something that I like very much. The series has inspired a fandom just like the Harry Potter series and has influenced my life in that way.

A Certain Slant of Light:

This book was a random find at the library that I ended up really enjoying. It was a can’t put down winner and it was witty and intelligent and made me laugh in all the write places although it had me crying at the end. This book was beautiful.

Media Impact

After reading Chapter 2: Media Impact and reading about the comic book research, I became intersted in the impact of books on soceity. Specifically, popular book series such as the Twilight Saga and the Harry Potter series. The two series have captivated a majority of america and I wonder why and how, and what sort of effect the two series have on their readers. If I were to propose a media reasearch project on the two book series I would start with some applied research by looking at the best seller lists and comparing that with the moive sales as well since both have been turned into blockbuster movies. That research will not only tell me how much people are buying into the franchises but what types of people are buying into it as well.

My general hypotheis would be that fantasy fiction series draw people in and lead some to become so immersed in the series that the line between fantasy and reality is blurred. I would test that by using the survey method and I would talk to fans of the series and get their opinion on how the series has effected them and their lives.

I predict that my results would not prove my hypothesis true, because my research method isn’t all that concrete, I would probably have to think of a more precise way to do that. Although, I do believe that both of the series have effected fans’ lives, I would efenitely like to research the subject further in the future.

Media Autobiography

Since I was about 10 years old, media has been a huge part of my life. I got my first AIM screen name and my own e-mail address when I was 10. I signed on to my first forum when I was 11. The internet was definitely my gateway into the world of media. I lived on the computer throughout elementary school, which had for the most part made me pretty computer literate and a rather fast typist which I became eternally grateful for later. I’ve always been an avid fan of the television, but only recently have I become one of those people who has to set their DVR almost every night.

The way that I’ve bought into the media the most, I believe is through merchandise. Book, Movie, and T.V. merchandise. What I mean by that is I am huge consumer when it comes to something I like. I started reading Harry Potter in the 3rd grade and fell completely in love. The second I found out Hot Topic sold merchandise I was there, buying everything I could find. I now have 3 Harry Potter shirts, all the books, and all the movies on DVD. I started reading the twilight series when I was a sophomore in high school and ever since the movies started coming out and merchandise started to pop up everywhere I was a media consumer again and bought everything I could find with a grand total of 1 bag, 4 t-shirts, 1 sweatshirt, 1 bracelet, 1 necklace and the DVD, not to mention all of the books.  Although, I buy into those things heavily, I think its a great way to express the things that I like.

I’m also a big fan of T.V. shows, I record several things during the week and it’s not an option to forget. The main ones are, Melrose Place, Glee and The Vampire Diaries. All new, but all necessities.

I don’t necessarily get into the news media so much. I hardly ever watch it or read the newspaper, but I’m not completely news blind. I know what’s going on in the world for the most part.

I think my favorite media is music recordings. Music is a huge expression and completely relatable and I love that aspect of it. I’ve been listening to the radio almost all of my life and music has always been a part of my life, the beats and the lyrics are very inspiring and fun.

I am considering a job in PR which would require me to know a lot about media, to plan big events and book big jobs for my clients, another job I am considering is that of an Actress, I’ve been acting since my freshmen year of high school, and if I became a famous enough actress, I’d have to deal with the media in the form of tabloids and paparazzi which would, I’m sure, be an issue for me, but one I’d be willing to handle and deal with. For PR i was thinking about majoring in business and for the other job of being an Actress of course theatre, but for either, I’m going to transfer to Cal State East Bay.

And that is a pretty fair overview of my relationship with the media.
